Happy post-holidays and happy New Year my friends! I survived my twelfth holiday season in retail-land, had a pretty relaxed Christmas, and rang in the New Year with my fella and some new friends. Not too shabby. Yes, I've neglected the blog since lots has happened on the career front. I've joined a new group of stores as an ASM and discovering my new love for all things Chico's.
So that being said, here's a few of my favorite things that I'm loving/wearing/using/obsessed with at the moment.
Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment was gifted to me by my lovely stylist/hair goddess Hannah Faulkner at Foster Glorioso Salon in Flatiron, NYC. After bleaching the crap out of my hair for most of 2013, the damage had been done. After 4 treatments, this stuff restores your hair to "virgin hair" condition (i.e., how your hair is supposed to be pre-color/heat styling/damage/etc. - basically the hair you're born with). I've given up the bleach since I'm dabbling with the idea of growing my hair out but love how this softens my fine strands without weighing them down. Worth every penny and since my hair is super short, I only need a dab of it.
I love a denim shirt and my Madewell one I purchased in August 2012 was due to be retired since it's on the side of being too large and was probably worn more times than I could count every week when I worked for SMU. This denim Treasa shirt from Chico's is the perfect light wash to pair with dark denim (the only way to do "double denim'") and the gold buttons add a little something special to a basic shirt. I also adore pairing this shirt with my faux-fur vest for a luxe yet relaxed look.
My black Trotters boots I've had for years are starting to show some wear so I splurged on these Clarks Mojita Crush boots with my Christmas money. Managed to acquire a stellar deal on these and they're beyond comfortable!
And last but not least, here's a couple photos from New Year's... Hope everyone is enjoying 2014 thus far!
Today has been the epitome of a lazy Saturday off work. I admit I've spent most of my day sleeping, watching Netflix, and surfing the interwebz. As a fashion addict, here's a few goodies that caught my eye!
My first pair of glasses from Coastal were by Kam Dhillon and I am SMITTEN with these! I've professed my love of Coastal here and hands down they are THE BEST for ordering glasses online!
Also, can we say these Joseph Marc frames are indeed FABULOUS? Totally digging the combo of black and tortoise shell!
A couple months ago, I splurged on a Pietro Alessandro "Manhattan" purse in black and I adore it. Now I have my eye on this lovely one. Want it? Yes. Need it? Probably not. But isn't that chevron pattern adorable?
As an experienced retail professional extraordinare, I am still very "old school" when it comes to holiday decorations and the like. So many malls and retailers start decorating quite early. Halloween's over?! Let's put up the faux-evergreen and some sparkly lights y'all. It's not even Thanksgiving and there's a tree lighting event in just over a week... say what?!? The one thing I thoroughly enjoyed about working for Nordstrom is that our holiday decor didn't go into effect until the day after Thanksgiving. I guess the one perk about the holidays "arriving early" is that one gets to experience all the amazing holiday/party themed merchandise.
Case in point, I am LOVING this Collective Concepts metallic sparkle sheath dress! It just arrived in stores at South Moon Under and I don't know if it will be online but if you really want one, you can also purchase it online at Nordstrom!
I promise it's a matte/soft gold sparkle on a black fabric base! I swear it's not silver/gunmetal - pinky promise! I love the stretch of the fabric and the sleeve length. A very classic dress with a unique twist that you could easily edge up with a leather jacket (my favorite) or make it very classy with pearls and pumps! While I don't have any holiday parties on my radar yet, I think this might be a must-have for the season.
Least I don't have a camel lurking over my shoulder though my cat is meowing in attempt to get my attention and giving me the death stare.
First and foremost, my custom TheRetailista.com custom domain is FINALLY working... Jeebus. It wasn't that hard but I missed adding the www in something and messed the whole darn thing up. That being said, go and follow me on Bloglovin - I love their app for my iPhone as a way to "read on the go."
Second, I had a chance to do a whirlwind tour to go back home to #RVA this weekend. I haven't been home since February so it was well-deserved and fabulous to go to ol' Virginia for a little bit. I scored this AMAZING vintage coat from my BFF Michelle and I am straight up OBSESSED.
This fits like a glove around my waist and I love how it flares out. I've dubbed it my "Mary Poppins" coat or my kickass coat.
Here's a close-up of the ahhh-mazing tweed fabric. Love it.
There's been a lot going on my radar (will go into that more later) but wanted to at least put up a post!
When in doubt, Pinterest it out. Or something like that. There's a little bit of comfort to be hanging out in bed or in your comfy chair with your ChromeBook, lurking on Pinterest, and building your fall wardrobe electronically. Some things I pin, I buy. Then there are some things I pin and lust after and think to myself "ooooooooohhhhhhhh, pretty."
I'm realizing my fall wardrobe is pretty bad off. I've added a couple plaid shirts and my cardigan collection consists of two that fit. Mind you, I have no idea how much I actually weigh but I know I've lost enough weight since last fall for some of my pieces to be too big. My last official weigh-in last November was some where around 133 lbs. if I remember correctly and I am apparently getting smaller. Sigh. Yeah, weight loss is good but there's a point where I need to quit losing. But anyways, Pinterest is my source to remember what to buy or what I'd like to buy...
Here's a few of my current obsessions:
What are you obsessing over for fall?
p.s. If anyone wants to set up my custom domain on Blogger, please let me know! The directions are more confusing than necessary!
p.s.s. If anyone wants to buy me a fall wardrobe, I'm your girl! Hahaha. I can dream, right?!?!
Nothing says beauty blogger fail like standing in my shower (with the water not running, mind you) trying to get a legit photo of what's in my shower and all the iPhone filters in the world won't to get a good picture. So much for trying to get a "hey, this is how I roll with my awesome shower goodies" photo. Womp-womp.
So here's the break down of what I use to be Lindsaylicious...
T.I.G.I. Catwalk Fashionista Shampoo (pictured all the way on the left but really not visible) - I scored a nice liter size bottle at T.J. Maxx recently. It seems that T.I.G.I. updated their packaging to this but I am not sure if the formulation is the same.
The color of the shampoo itself has a slight violet tinge to it but I'm not 100% sure if affects my hair color or not. All I know is it safe for color treated hair and leaves my hair soft (I've accidentally forgotten conditioner before so I know this doesn't leave my locks brittle). I wash my hair "as needed" - it usually equates to every few days or when it starts to look dingy (#blondeproblems).
H20 Plus Hair Repair Seaweed Masque - Another TJ Maxx find... Love that you can use as a conditioner (leave on for 2-3 minutes) or as a masque (leave on for 5-10 minutes)! I tend to reach for this more as my conditioner when I do shampoo.
L'Oreal Advanced Hair Care Total Repair 5 Damage-Erasing Balm - This stuff is creamy golden goodness for my hair. Love love love. I grab this stuff any time I color my hair or any time I know I will have to blow-dry vs. letting it air dry as much as possible. Any time I've done a complete bleach out, I leave this stuff on my hair overnight for some extra TLC.
Confession time, I use a combo of cold cream and head-to-toe baby wash to remove my makeup and cleanse my face. Sometimes I remember to use my Clarisonic, sometimes I don't. Which reminds me, I need to charge that thing up! The cold cream breaks down my mascara/eyeliner really well and the baby wash cleanses without stripping my skin yet still leaves me free of residue. Winning!
Ivory Soap - Sometimes I prefer to not go the body wash route and go plain and simple.
And hold up, when did T.J. Maxx start the option to shop online?!? The two T.J. Maxx's near me are sort of meh in their collections so kind of stoked to see what's new online! Are you a Maxxinista? I love a deal for sure!
There's something lovely about fall... The colors changing in the leaves, the crispness in the air, and of course fall fashion. Autumn is awesome, y'all. I often identify fall as a new beginning and there's something in me that yearns to walk around crunching leaves with my Frye Carmen Harness Short boots, wearing plaid, and holding hands with my sweetheart (perhaps with a soy pumpkin spice latte in my other hand).
I'm a little mad for plaid as of late... I've added two plaid shirts to my wardrobe and realizing their both of the green color palette but one pops more than the other. Plaid is that perfect mix of punk and preppy which I tend to blur lines with regarding my current wardrobe choices.
This Cloth & Stone plaid shirt from South Moon Under was my first plaid addition to add to this year's fall wardrobe. I love the longer length and that I can also pair with leggings or tuck it into a skirt. I personally wear mine with the sleeves rolled up. I cannot wait to add a cardigan or a sweater when the weather gets cooler. The color palette could either go more punk or prep with this one. Definitely a favorite item of mine!
Oh UNIQLO, how I love your well made yet affordable pieces. I had a last minute wardrobe malfunction of sorts this week and needed something appropriate to wear. So here we go... A green and fuschia plaid shirt with a touch of sky blue. This is totally preppy McPrepperson but I kind of dig it. The flannel is super soft yet lightweight on this one.
I'm still having issues with getting my domain back, it is a big ol' pain in the booty. Can I pay my $10 and get my domain again?! Too much work, perhaps I shall become TheRetailista.net or something along those lines? I am not a happy camper with Google Apps and Enom. Womp womp.
And last but not least, I am in the market for new job opportunities... Business is business and I'm living in the fashion capital of the East Coast so why not embrace it? If you know of any amazing fashion jobs in #NYC, please let me know! Feel free to reach out at theretailista [at] gmail [dot ] com if you know of any leads or feel free to connect with me via LinkedIn. Let's #HireLindsay and find me something amazing!
