Makeup Monday: Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip Balm

April 7, 2014

Lately I've become very streamlined with certain aspects of my beauty routine - one of those products is what I wear on my lips. I love a bright lip just as much as the next girl but sometimes you need an easy lip balm to "throw on and go." My favorite is the Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil. The original Burt's Bees lip balm is too waxy for my tastes and this lip balm is super moisturizing and adds just a hint of color. I should buy this in the two-pack version because this the one lip balm I keep purchasing on repeat! Love it!

You can purchase this at your local drugstore or online at Ulta or Target. You're welcome because your lips will thank you!

Just Buy The Shoes: Clarks Grayson Erica Ballet Flat

April 3, 2014

I love shoes. But I hate shopping for shoes to wear between the seasons. Case in point, it's supposed to be spring but the weather is not quite there yet. Wearing boots? So over it. Yet I'm not quite ready to bring out the sandals. And I while I had one pair of flats in my possession, I still feel like I am "breaking them in." They were on sale for dirt cheap at Easy Spirit when that store location was closing at The Westchester.

Clarks has saved my shoe dilemma with their Grayson Erica ballet flat. The faded rose leather color is reminiscent of my ballet slippers when I took dance classes as a little one with the parks and rec program. This quite nude but not quite pink shade seems to be a good color for my skin that has not seen the sun in a while!

New shoes and fro-yo. The simple things in life.

So far these are the most comfortable flats I've worn in a while... The elastic around the toe still needs to be stretched a little bit (wide foot problems) but love that they don't dig into my ankles! The leather is buttery soft and I'm so smitten I'm tempted to get the gold leather pair which is a pale soft gold with a hint of silver when the light hits it. Love it! If you're looking for a shoe to transition into warmer temps, these Clarks flats might be your new shoe BFF.

Makeup Monday: Foundation Woes

March 31, 2014

To the makeup companies that believe that 8 hours of wear time is acceptable for your foundation/BB cream/tinted moisturizer/etc. is acceptable - I'm calling your bluff. I work 8+ hours a day which doesn't include my 45 minute commute to work. What if I want to get dinner with my beau after - will my face still look as fresh as it did when I left my apartment that morning? Probably not.

For all the makeup gurus who share their love of face primer, I'm allergic to 99% of the silicone based primers out there. After a few instances with silicone based face primers that caused me to break out in awful cystic acne among my jaw line, I gave up the stuff and finally a few weeks later the cystic acne ran it's course and vacated my jawline. I've tried a few of the silicone free primers such as the Sephora Collection Silicone Free Foundation Primer and the Korres Pomegranate Mattifying Primer (in addition to their original face primer) and they didn't make a difference so back to Sephora they went. Le sigh.

In my current foundation stash, I'm rotating between e.l.f. Studio Flawless Finish Foundation and Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Foundation. Some days I really like the e.l.f. foundation and some days I really like the Neutrogena one though I think it tends to dry up near my under eye area on it's own. Foundation tends to wear the worst on my nose, under my eyes, and my chin/jawline (probably due to winter's scarves). Lately I've been mixing both foundations and setting with a combination of Coty Airspun loose powder and Physician's Formula Youthful Wear Youth Boosting Illuminating Powder and that combination is working the best (but still not perfect).

All of this to go on my face. Wow. And doesn't include concealer and under eye brightener and that's another story for another day...

Sigh. I just want my foundation to look fabulous all day, not get patchy in spots, and wears evenly all over. I'm dry-ish near my eyes (don't get me started on the discoloration/dark circles) yet my forehead and nose gets shiny. Perhaps it's the dull winter skin blues? I just want to look good all day and not think about it. Too much to ask?

I want to look this flawless all day. Seriously. Though my hair is way longer than J-Law's now... I want my skin to stay this fabulous all day.

Saturday Spring Shoe Lust

March 22, 2014

The first day of spring was Thursday and I've been dreaming of sandals and warm weather... I wore last year summer's Clarks Casslyn Paula Wedges the other day and I unfortunately think I wore them so much last summer that the cushion in the footbed has worn out. So it's due time to do a little shoe browsing, shall we?

These Clarks Shira Brenna heels might be the perfect transition to spring shoe... I could easily pair them with black opaque tights with skirts until the weather warms up. I'm drawn to the black leather but the nude color might be a good choice too! That wood heel says "hello spring!"

I'm also loving the double buckles and snakeskin detail on these Clarks Shira Danika heels. In case you couldn't tell, I am a bit of a Clarks fan girl because the comfort level is pretty top notch with their shoes especially for us gals who experience "retail feet."

I tried on the Nordstrom exclusive BP. Tara Wedge and I love the stretchy elastic wide straps and wedge heel! The elastic is accommodating for my slightly wider foot.

I recall seeing these Sofft Sarita Platform Sandals on Refinery29 or another site along those lines and I was instantly drawn to the black and white details on the shoe as well as the wood heel.

A retail worker pal was praising her pair of Dexflex Comfort flats from Payless and these Dexflex Comfort Margaret Espadrille Wedges caught my eye and they come in a wide! And the under $35 price tag is pretty stellar... Might be worth trying on.

Last but not least, I'm intrigued by Chie Mahara shoes because I constantly see the ladies of Looks Good From The Back praising their comfort level and love of their Chies.

LOOK AT ALL THE PRETTY SHOES... Sigh. Expensive but pretty.

A few of my favorite things...

January 10, 2014

Happy post-holidays and happy New Year my friends! I survived my twelfth holiday season in retail-land, had a pretty relaxed Christmas, and rang in the New Year with my fella and some new friends. Not too shabby. Yes, I've neglected the blog since lots has happened on the career front. I've joined a new group of stores as an ASM and discovering my new love for all things Chico's.

So that being said, here's a few of my favorite things that I'm loving/wearing/using/obsessed with at the moment.

Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment was gifted to me by my lovely stylist/hair goddess Hannah Faulkner at Foster Glorioso Salon in Flatiron, NYC. After bleaching the crap out of my hair for most of 2013, the damage had been done. After 4 treatments, this stuff restores your hair to "virgin hair" condition (i.e., how your hair is supposed to be pre-color/heat styling/damage/etc. - basically the hair you're born with). I've given up the bleach since I'm dabbling with the idea of growing my hair out but love how this softens my fine strands without weighing them down. Worth every penny and since my hair is super short, I only need a dab of it.

I purchased this Ponds Luminous Finish BB+ Cream on a whim a while back and on my second tube. I'm utilizing it as my day moisturizer/primer and then I'm currently dabbling between e.l.f.'s Studio Flawless Finish Foundation SPF 15 and their Studio HD Mattifying Cream Foundation. I'm applying both with the e.l.f. Studio Powder Brush because those synthetic bristles are amazing at blending in both liquid and cream foundation.

I love a denim shirt and my Madewell one I purchased in August 2012 was due to be retired since it's on the side of being too large and was probably worn more times than I could count every week when I worked for SMU. This denim Treasa shirt from Chico's is the perfect light wash to pair with dark denim (the only way to do "double denim'") and the gold buttons add a little something special to a basic shirt. I also adore pairing this shirt with my faux-fur vest for a luxe yet relaxed look.

My black Trotters boots I've had for years are starting to show some wear so I splurged on these Clarks Mojita Crush boots with my Christmas money. Managed to acquire a stellar deal on these and they're beyond comfortable!

And last but not least, here's a couple photos from New Year's... Hope everyone is enjoying 2014 thus far!

Lazy Saturday... And a late to the party outfit post.

November 9, 2013

Today has been the epitome of a lazy Saturday off work. I admit I've spent most of my day sleeping, watching Netflix, and surfing the interwebz. As a fashion addict, here's a few goodies that caught my eye!

My first pair of glasses from Coastal were by Kam Dhillon and I am SMITTEN with these! I've professed my love of Coastal here and hands down they are THE BEST for ordering glasses online!

Also, can we say these Joseph Marc frames are indeed FABULOUS? Totally digging the combo of black and tortoise shell!

A couple months ago, I splurged on a Pietro Alessandro "Manhattan" purse in black and I adore it. Now I have my eye on this lovely one. Want it? Yes. Need it? Probably not. But isn't that chevron pattern adorable?

And last but not least, here's an #OOTD post I work for date night a couple weeks ago! It went up on Instagram but somehow missed blogging about it!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

November 7, 2013

As an experienced retail professional extraordinare, I am still very "old school" when it comes to holiday decorations and the like. So many malls and retailers start decorating quite early. Halloween's over?! Let's put up the faux-evergreen and some sparkly lights y'all. It's not even Thanksgiving and there's a tree lighting event in just over a week... say what?!? The one thing I thoroughly enjoyed about working for Nordstrom is that our holiday decor didn't go into effect until the day after Thanksgiving. I guess the one perk about the holidays "arriving early" is that one gets to experience all the amazing holiday/party themed merchandise. Case in point, I am LOVING this Collective Concepts metallic sparkle sheath dress! It just arrived in stores at South Moon Under and I don't know if it will be online but if you really want one, you can also purchase it online at Nordstrom!

I promise it's a matte/soft gold sparkle on a black fabric base! I swear it's not silver/gunmetal - pinky promise! I love the stretch of the fabric and the sleeve length. A very classic dress with a unique twist that you could easily edge up with a leather jacket (my favorite) or make it very classy with pearls and pumps! While I don't have any holiday parties on my radar yet, I think this might be a must-have for the season.
